The Long Way Home

by The Wild Voice

Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.

The sign says home is twenty miles. I choose the road that makes it forty. Past the quarry, past the field where starlings lift like soot reversing, past the diner closing its blinds. Nothing is solved by distance. Still, the engine's steady answer untangles one thought at a time, and I arrive able to enter.
