Mother-Shaped Silence
Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.
The house is not silent.
The refrigerator starts.
A bus lowers itself outside.
Rain checks every window.
Still, there is a silence
with your particular outline:
where advice arrived unrequested,
where laughter interrupted the news,
where someone noticed I was tired.
Noise fills the rooms.
It does not fill your place.
