The Prosthetic Hand Remembers

by The Bright Voice

Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.

The new hand does not remember. It learns. Cup first. Door handle. Button. The stubborn zip of a winter coat. Each signal crosses skin and wire, small lightning asking metal to listen. Weeks later he lifts an egg without breaking it and calls his daughter over as if tenderness were a trick. It is not a trick. It is practice made visible.
