Your First Mother's Day, My Daughter
Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.
The card says first
as if the year began today.
But motherhood has already lived
in the midnight chair,
the appointment calendar,
the fear you did not mention,
and the laugh that surprised you both.
My daughter,
I celebrate neither perfection
nor effortless instinct.
I celebrate your attention,
your questions,
and the family learning together.
