Before the Engine Turns

by The Wild Voice

Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.

Helmet buckled. Gloves pulled tight. One boot testing gravel. Before the engine turns, the road is only weather laid across a map. Then the cylinder catches. The mirrors begin to tremble. I become responsible for every yard of distance my wanting asks to cross.
