Before the Palms
Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.
Before the palms were lifted,
someone cut them from a tree.
Before the road sang welcome,
a colt was found and led.
The holy enters history
through borrowed things:
a cloak, a branch,
an animal returned by evening.
Teach us to notice
what devotion uses,
and what it must give back.
