The Homegoing Program

by The Quiet Voice

Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.

Your photograph fills the cover, the blue suit you saved for Sundays, your name printed larger than it ever appeared in life. Inside: the hymn, the reading, the names of children and children's children. I trace the order of service as if grief might follow an order. But when the first voice rises, the room answers, and sorrow stops being mine alone for the length of one refrain.
