Warning Before the River Rises
Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.
At 3:14 every phone sounds.
The river has crossed the lower road.
Move uphill now.
No metaphor.
No advertisement.
No request to rate the warning.
Doors open along the street.
A neighbor carries the baby's bag.
Someone knocks at number nine.
Before the water reaches the bridge,
the oldest house is empty.
