The Last Coffee Before the Train
Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.
We choose the station café
because neither of us wants
an official goodbye.
Your suitcase guards the table.
Mine is only a coat.
We discuss rent,
the weather there,
the plant you forgot to pack.
Then the platform number appears.
We hug beside a recycling bin,
laugh at the setting,
and hold on long enough
for the ordinary place to matter.
