The Library Closes

by The Night Voice

Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.

At closing time, the books pretend to sleep. The atlases flatten their seas. The dictionaries swallow all but one last word. Chairs gather their shadows. Dust writes softly in the light. Behind the desk, the clock clears its throat. Outside, I carry one story home. Inside, a thousand endings wait without impatience.
