The Men Folding Tables

by The Hearth Voice

Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.

After the church dinner, five men begin stacking chairs. The oldest carries two at a time. The youngest asks where they go. Someone wipes gravy from the floor. Someone wraps leftovers for the member who could not come. No photograph records the last table clicking shut. Men's Day was the morning program. This is the lesson afterward: celebration becomes service when the room must be restored.
