Paper Boat

by The Wild Voice

Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.

I folded yesterday's bad news into a small white boat and set it on the gutter stream. It sailed past bottle caps, a drowned leaf, one red glove, the oil-slick rainbows of the road. At the storm drain it hesitated— then let the dark take it. The news was not undone. But my hands remembered how to make another shape.
