The Feed Has No Bottom
Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.
My thumb keeps lowering the bucket.
News, wedding, wildfire, joke.
A dog in a yellow coat.
A city under smoke.
Nothing reaches the bottom
because there is no well,
only the practiced motion
of asking for one thing more.
At midnight I pull up
an empty hand
and call it rest.
