Three Names at the Font
Original EveryPoem Studio house-voice poem.
The water holds no explanation.
It receives the child's forehead,
the trembling hand,
the names spoken carefully:
Father,
Son,
Holy Spirit.
Not three doors into separate houses,
but one welcome we enter
before we understand it.
The congregation answers softly.
Water returns to the bowl.
Mystery remains mystery,
now carried in a human name.
